The German Wine Institute (DWI) will be showcasing medal winners from national and international competitions at this year´s ProWein trade fair in Duesseldorf from 13 – 15 March 2016. Under the banner “Best of the Best – Medal-winning wines of Germany”, some 20 top wines will be available to the trade for open tasting and presented in a series of guided tastings at the tasting bar in Hall 13 (13A90).
“Our aim at this year´s fair is to demonstrate the outstanding quality that German producers are capable of achieving and by doing so underline once again the international competitiveness of wines from Germany´s wine regions”, explains Monika Reule, managing director of the German Wine Institute.
Further fascinating events will be hosted by the German Wine Institute at the ProWein Forum in Hall 13 on the fair Sunday and Monday (both at 12:30 h). In a masterclass entitled “Good – Better – Silvaner”, the newly-appointed Master of Wine Romana Echensperger will be presenting Germany´s wide range of Silvaners. Like all presentations at the German Wine Institute stand, this event will be held in English to cater to the increasing number of foreign visitors.
This year is the 100th anniversary of the Scheurebe grape and in recognition the German Wine Institute will be hosting a tasting which will convey the great potential of this aromatic variety. It takes place on 15 March at 11:15 h and is open to all fair visitors.
“International cheeses and German Wine” is the topic on Sunday at 16:30 h, when cheese experts from “Bourgondisch Lifestyle” from the Netherlands will demonstrate delicious pairings of selected cheeses with German wines.
Every year at ProWein, the German Wine Institute provides the many wine merchants, retailers and sommeliers from all over the world with information on the latest trends and novelties from the German wine regions. “Orange Hour” is an information event organized specifically for Dutch trade visitors on the fair Sunday.
Moreover, on 14 March at 10:30 h, the DWI will be announcing the winners of the joint competition organized by the DWI and Original SELTERS entitled, “Ausgezeichnete Weingastronomie” (Excellent Wine Gastronomy). This is followed at 12:00 h by the presentation of the “Fachhandelspreis des Deutschen Weininstituts 2016” (German Wine Institute Specialist Trade Award 2016), which is staged in cooperation with the trade journal Wein + Markt with the support of the companies Schott Zwiesel, Howasped and Eurosoft.
In addition, the DWI will again give organizations from the German wine industry the opportunity to present themselves to fair visitors at their ProWein stand. This year the Young Vintners from Baden, the VDP Rheingau, as well as the German vintners´ national football team “Weinelf” (Wine Eleven) will be taking up this offer.
Generation Riesling for the 3rd time at the ProWein
This year for the third time, the German Wine Institute will enable Generation Riesling – the world´s largest organization of young vintners with around 500 members – to make its own appearance at the ProWein. Eleven young winemakers from seven different regions will be presenting their wines and concepts in Hall 13 (13B92), seven of these making their debut at the ProWein.
With the tagline “Generation Riesling – what young ideas taste like”, wines from the young generation of vintners will also be displayed at the German Wine Institute stand on Sunday, 13.03. at 15:00 h, as well as on Tuesday, 15.03. at 13:00 h.
