With a rating of 97 out of 100 possible points, the van Volxem winery from the Mosel winegrowing region wins the Berlin Lagen Cup White 2020 with the 2019 Volz GG Riesling. Sandra Sauer from the Franconian winery Horst Sauer is named Winemaker of the Year.
For this year’s competition, producers from the 13 German winegrowing regions submitted around 700 wines. All wines were blind tasted and rated according to the 100-point system.
The ten-member jury of the Lagen Cup – wine journalists and sommeliers – evaluated wines from 200 German wineries during the competition in Berlin. The focus was on the 2019 vintage, with Riesling making up the lion’s share of the winning wines. Older wines aged for ten years were also tasted.
